Trip 1- 4th Post
Here are some pictures from some of the sightseeing that we did while in Ethiopia. We were only with Sarah for a total of 3 hours and in court for about 1 hour so the rest of the week we were free to explore the city. We made friends with the families that were traveling and going to court on the same day as us. It was fun and comforting to form friendships with people from all over the US that were in the midst of the same process.
The leprosy hospital in Addis was very neat to visit. We met several of the ladies and gentleman and their children pictured here. They were eager to show us their work. This is the only leprosy hospital in Ethiopia. The patients here come and work on projects (as seen in these pictures) to try and maintain or improve the function of their hands and feet.
Also pictured is part of our Gladney group out for dinner at a traditional Ethiopian meal. We ate Ethiopian food and were entertained by Ethiopian singing and dancers. It was very fun. Several of the members of our party even danced on stage but Eric and I would NEVER do anything crazy like that :)
Also included is a picture of me with Abiy (pronounced Ah-Bee) who was our driver for the week. He was a real highlight of the trip. He basically drove us anywhere we wanted to go the entire week. I told him when we left that I was going to have to adjust back to having to drive myself (and the kids) around town in the van. Given the traffic situation and "different" driving style in Ethiopia, it was very good that we did not have to drive ourselves anywhere!
