Hot Hot Hot

Dear friends and family-
the weather here continues to be over 100. while i am not ready for the busy-ness of the school year to start, i would welcome a change in the weather. the boys and i did manage to get outside this afternoon and play some basketball.

henry, after a week at YMCA basketball camp, is ready to challenge me in one-on-one whenever i am willing. he is really coming along in his dribbling and enjoys playing aggressively. he loves it when i stuff his attempts at lay ups. we both get a good laugh at that!

while we were playing today, owen achieved a new level of independence. he has begun to reach down from his wheelchair and pick up one of the balls we use and is therefore able to do his own rebounding!! this was a wonderful achievement and one of those moments where i give thanks for the way that spina bifida has grown in me a heart that appreciates even the small blessings in life. he will be eligible to begin practicing with the Movin' Mavs (Dallas' youth wheelchair basketball team) when he turns 5 in november. he is looking forward to getting to learn from other wheelchair players.

attached are some pictures from basketball camp and other happenings around here. as you can see we do alot of sword fighting and light-sabre-ing here on faircrest. there are also some pictures of meghan sporting her new pigtails which she will keep in for about 5 minutes before removing them... oh well, we have to start somewhere. she is full of life and learning to "express herself" (ie have tantrums) quite nicely. she is currently working on perfecting her spoon and fork skills- what a mess but so much fun.

4 Weeks and Counting

Dear friends and family-
Only four more weeks until henry starts kindergarten. Owen and meghan go back into their fall schedules a little later (after labor day) but henry starts on the 19th of august. He is really excited and seems confident about kingergarten. His uniforms came in the mail early last week and for several days, that was all he wanted to wear. Owen is pretty jealous that he doesn't get to go to Coram Deo with henry. I think a year of being in different schools will be good for both boys.

We have one last camp this week. Henry is going to the YMCA for basketball camp with a few friends. He is really excited and awoke this morning full of energy. He promptly got dressed in his favorite "basketball clothes." Owen and meghan and i will have a normal week and probably try to do some fun things just for owen.

Summertime

hi friends and family-
this is our first attempt at blogging. we are hoping to create a place for you to come and see our latest news and pictures. as well, we are excited to have a journal of our adventures. we hope you enjoy it (and we hope we stick with it!!)

i am posting some pictures from our summer adventures in the baby pool in the backyard. the kids had so much fun filling it up and then splashing in it. even the boys who claimed that it was "babyish" had so much fun dumping water on each other. and meghan was adorable in it. her only frustration is not being able to climb up the slide.

it has been so hot that if it does not involve water, there is really no way to be outside for very long and still maintain your sanity. the kids are tiring of the pool and i am thinking..... it is a long long 5 weeks until school starts. i am sure we will find ways to keep busy.
love,
laura
